LSI Corporation, a leading supplier of chips, systems and software, have today announced the completion of the purchase of assets and intellectual property of the hard disk semiconductor business of Infineon Technologies. The deal was signed in early March.
With this purchase LSI aim to be a major worldwide semiconductor supplier to the hard disk drive industry, this is expected to show immediate improvement in revenue from existing customer Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST).
LSI corporation have also recently joined the ONFi or Open NAND Flash Interface working group, a group of over 70 companies including NAND manufacturers aiming to standardise NAND Flash memory interfaces to simplify their integration into devices by use of a common interface.
The adoption of the ONFi spec will be welcome news within the data recovery industry and should lead to speedier service and lower overall costs for devices such as USB memory sticks, removable media cards and eventually hybrid and SSD hard drives..
